From the last frontier of the USA - "The great state of Alaska."

February 2002.

ISS Station Station.

I have found a fascinating URL that provides the user with a glimpse of what the international space station looks like.

This software was developed for Nasa to provide astronauts and cosmonauts with a feeling of what it is like to be aboard the ISS.

The software was developed by realty for Nasa and will allow the user to go both inside the ISS and outside as well. You will definitely get a feeling of weightlessness as you traverse the Russian side of ISS as well as the American side. There are no on board items, there are reference points you can click on to explain what their function is. It is very easy to get lost as you explore ISS. It does require a large amount of storage to load the program but it is well worth it. the surround music is outstanding.

I have spent hours looking in every part of the ship. If you are interested click here to view.

A Bears Tale.

Alaska has many bear stories, some true, some embellished and some very funny. This is a true story that occurred in my back yard (a wetland forest) and I have entitled it: 'The reprobate.'

The reprobate was a very large tom cat, black and white about twenty pounds. The cat hated everything including himself. He wandered the neighbourhood, unopposed, feared, and completely domineering. Even dogs ran away from this wild eyed maniacal monster. He had more nicks and missing chunks of hide obtained in quite a few encounters that he undoubtedly won in the process. he always wandered through my back yard, head down, sauntering from side to side, I made the foolish attempt one day of saying "hear kitty, kitty’ I may just as well have said "hail mighty khan", his response, if interpreted would have been "buzz off or I will destroy you".

He wandered, unchallenged, even by the local dog and kitty cops. They would not go near him. And then one day, the reprobate was wandering, head down through my back yard. I was sitting in my glassed atrium looking at this whilst to the right appeared a very large black bear about 300 to 400 pounds. I became enthralled to see what would occur when these two came cats head to bear paws. The reprobate kept coming, head swaying from right to left, until, in his path appeared two very large black paws. The sequence of what transpired next is as follows:

The reprobate started to look up, slowly, until he saw the bears head. There was a moment of complete disbelief as I saw the reprobates eyes open as wide as silver dollars. I could see the thoughts racing through the reprobates mind "please feet, do not fail me now" the reprobate rose vertically about one foot and a half, executed a reverse azimuth of 180 degrees and was running before he hit the ground. I have not seen the reprobate since that encounter and what I have related here is all true.

I have more bear stories but that will be for another time.
